About Us

We were formed in 1986 and have about 180 members.
We have all ages represented in the Club, but it is fair to
say that the majority are between 50 and 70 years old.
However we are a lively bunch and in spite of our
mature years many of us will still tackle the
Snowdon Horseshoe and other grade 1 scrambles
if we can.

We organise a varied programme of walks across
the broad Midland area but also enjoy visiting
Wales, The Peaks, and anywhere else that a good
walk can be found within a reasonable travelling
time. The Club is affiliated to the Ramblers
Association. We produce a newsletter called“Ramblin’ on” three times a year to keep everyone informed about the Club. If you would like to try us out then by all means come out with us - the first three walks are free!!

Social
We are a sociable group and like to enjoy ourselves. All of our Sunday “A”
walks have a pub stop at lunch time as do many of our other walks. Social
events are organised regularly (see What we Offer) and many of our members
attend other functions as a group.

Coach Trips
In an endeavour to broaden the type of walking done by the Club we organise
coach trips to tackle walks in areas further afield,
We have completed the John Gillam “Snowdonia to the Gower” which took us
from Llanfairfechan to the Gower over the highest mountains in Wales. The next
project was Prestatyn to Aberystwyth (The North West Passage Walk) which
took in the Cllwyd Mountains, The Berwyns, The Arran Ridge, Pumlumon,
and the Borth Aberystwyth coastal path. A more recent project was a series of
walks called “Ridges and Remotes” which attempted some of the mountains
that we had not yet climbed.
Now that the bulk of the Club is older the coach trips still continue but the walks
are a little easier. (see the special events page)

Walk Grading
Walks are graded as follows;-
Grade A = Strenuous - might not be on footpaths - might include grade 1 scrambles
Grade B = Moderate walk - will involve some steep climbs
Grade C = Easy walking on reasonable paths - no steep climbs.
